A friendship/relationship that lasts is such a beautiful thing. However, it is not the easiest thing to find or keep up. To start off, friendships are really fragile and tend to break easily. There are so many things that go into a friendship, but one that is God centered is definitely something beautiful. What does this entail? First, accountability, being there for each other to encourage, pray, and keep each other on the right path. Next, using your gifts that God has uniquely blessed you with to help and support those around you. Now, a true friend is someone who is with you through all circumstances and will continue to love on you no matter how many struggles or obstacles come your way. The strength of a friendship revolves around transparency and truth, that you are real with yourself, your friends, and most importantly God. Strong Christian friendships start with a great foundation. Brothers, you must to have close brothers in Christ; both older (who can be an example and disciple you) and younger (who you can be that example for and have to disciple as well). I know it’s hard for guys to be transparent, but it is definitely worth it and it does help to strengthen the bond between each other. Most importantly, you will be able to relate to them because you probably have gone through similar situations. To really encourage each other to be the man of God and leader that He wants you to be. Encourage each other to be disciplined and edifying to others. For sisters, you need to have close sisters in Christ who can also keep you accountable and disciple; surround yourselves with both younger and older sisters. Teach each other about biblical womanhood and to be an example for others through action and love. Build yourselves up in the faith and guard each other’s hearts. Show people around you the love that Christ has shown you. You all need friends in your life that will rally around you to praise you in accomplishments and also support you in temptation and sin. Lastly obedience to God; God knows what we are going through and what is best for us so center your friendships on seeking Him together. Now, Relationships; let me start by saying if you are single or called by God to be single props to you. Just keep those friendships you have and maintain that strong relationship with the Lord. You are never alone because you always have Him in your life. Being single is an amazing time for personal growth and to strengthen your relationships with others. If God does call you to a relationship, then He must have something great in store for you so take complete joy in that as well. For all those who feel called to a relationship or looking, know that Christian relationships require a ton of patience. You must ask yourself: Can I see myself marrying this person? Is it in God’s plan for them and yourself to begin a relationship? Are you ready spiritually for a relationship and are you going to be able to guard each other’s hearts? Are both of you deserving of each other? There are so many questions you must ask yourself and you have to know what you are getting yourself into and what it entails. You may be risking your friendship with the other person as well. A relationship is not a one way street. There must be direction and a clear vision on both sides. A relationship is a gift, not something to take advantage of. The focus is centered on God and glorifying Him through your relationship. That it is much more than you, but it is also about Jesus and others as well. A long lasting relationship begins with being led by God’s Word, truly knowing Him, and having that strong relationship with Him first and foremost. That you will always love each other as a brother or sister in Christ no matter what happens. A strong relationship starts from the heart. Are both of your hearts in the right place? Is it God speaking to you or is it just your own wants and desires? Only through faithful prayer and consistent scripture reading can you truly understand God’s plan and will for you. Always keep that passion and desire for God through all things. Don’t lose hope brothers and sisters; God has amazing things in store for you beyond anything you can even imagine. Just remain patient and trust in Him. Strong relationships and friendships are abounding in love; that the love of Christ is magnified through your relationships with others. Can others see Jesus in your friendships and relationships? If not, you need to dive into the Word and examine where your heart is. Gossip, lust, hate, and worldly love are the center of weak relationships with others, but love, patience, generosity, and Jesus are what create strong connections with others. Love is a sacrifice; in which you lay down your lives for those around you. It may sound difficult and time consuming, but believe me when I say that it is truly worth it.
